Collecting tyranids in 6th. Part 3 - Stompy

Real steamroller!

While I mastered the dakka-monsters, described in Part 2, a lot of people around the world developed a competitive Stompy tyranids army. Now our monsters are much better with Feel No Pain, as well as they are awesome at destroying tanks and transports. Also, Swarmlord gained the access to powerful magic, that allows us to build a very touch and lethal army that is more or less a living steamroller! Like this:

Collecting tyranids in 6th. Part 2 - Slow but tough (Shooty-shooty)

Tough as mountain… dakka-dakka-mountain!

Warhammer 40k 6th edition gave us overwatch, smash and Look out, sir! That is good. And fliers – that is bad.
My first idea of how to struggle with all this was – Monstrous devourers!!! Yes, they are twin-linked. This means 4 hits from every monster for any flyer or overwatch!

Collecting tyranids in 6th. Part 1 - Archetypes

As I’m a bit tired to translate and post somebody else's thoughts on tyranids, I decided to write something unique. So, I decided to write a series of articles on 6-edition competitive tyranid builds as I see them… for newbies! Why for newbies? Cause mature players have a lot of their own brain worms to play with, while new players have a lot of spare place in their heads, so I have a little chance to put there a bit of my own experience to help them grow faster and stronger as a hiveminds:)

[1850] – Friendly team tourney. Tyranids vs SW+IG

Our friends, warhammer 40k sportsmen from Russia decided to come to Belarus to play some competitive battles in 6th edition. We decided to make a somewhat like a team tourney with 2 teams participating, 7 players each.

I brought my drop-tyranids as an attacking list for different foot-list like Tony Kopach SW+IG and the like. My list is as follows:

Transport 3: Mycetic spore [40]

So, as we came, Azatoth, the pairing master of team Russia and Belarus team captain Johnny started to do pairings. After one round of pairings, Azatoth put Karachun with a space wolfes+ig army with priest (JoTWW) in droppod as a defender.
Johnny looks at me and says: “I think, yes”. “Think again”, - is my suggestion. “Yes, It’s a good variant”, - supports Yaroslav, smiling wide. As a result I’m a happy attaker on the Space Wolfs!

[1000+1000] Minsk Autumn - 2012 Game 3 - Tyranids+CSM vs BT+BA

After two games I’m in the middle of the tourney table, so I have no chances to win the tourney, but a lot of chances to get a better standing after the last, third game.
My partner for the last game is Stalker, a good painter who rarely see the gaming table, so his list is not overpowered:

[1000+1000] Minsk Autumn - 2012 Game 2 - Tyranids+IG vs GK+CSM

After grand loss in the very first game I found myself at the bottom of tourney table, so I expected an easy match. No way! At the opposite table edge stood our country ETC team captain with his new, awesome painted Nurgle marines!
In addition, my ally for this round is Lord_BERS (IG) who came with a pair of Hydras. He mistakenly thought that Hydras have an interceptor rule and was disillusioned in the first round game, huh.
