Devastating defeat... :)
I got quite a positive match-up this time, still, it's always hard to get more than a draw with World Eaters.
Tyranids - World Eaters
Nice and extremely effective WE list without Angron but with pre-game move
https://tourneykeeper.net/Shared/ShowArmy.aspx?id=72645
We play table quarters, which is the shortest turn1 charge possible. Interesting!
My secondaries are Warp Ritual, Engage, and No prisoners.
World Eaters take all three WE secondaries.
Do you think that Warp Ritual is a mistake against WE? I doubt that, cause I have to accomplish it only 3 times for max pts. And WE player should try to spend 1 CP each turn to stop me. As a result, I would draw 5 CP's from him with a 50% chance to make it 3 times through the game. Not bad, I think!
WE deploy defensively with two berserker squads in reserves, meanwhile, I deploy aggressively with a gant screen and tyrannocyte in deepstrike.
I lose the first turn, which is very important in this game, so WE can redeploy and try to get a lucky charge turn 1.
Turn 1
World eaters get one blob of eightbounds on the rightmost objective and the second blob is thrown into my screen. 5 man berserker unit also heads for my gants. Both charges are successful and my gants disappear, and my monsters are roadblocked by two units. Nice move.
I have no suitable place for a drop, so I run gants 16" to the center.
Being able to spot rhino with 1 carnifex and a stranglethorn cannon I blow it up.
Obviously, all the eightbounds and berserkers, blocking my movement, are destroyed by magic, shooting and charges.
Gants get all the buffs (+1 to hit, rr 1's to hit, 5+ Feel no Pain and mortal's on "6" to wound) charge and kill the spawn, then Overrun and roadblock leftmost rhino and disembarked berserkers from advancing any more forward.
Turn 2
I switched on the Imperative for Invulnerable saves on my army. Stasik underestimated the gaunts and charged them with only 5 berserkers and a Lord. After invulnerable saves and FnP's 8 gaunts remained (with Lord out of reach, being unable to strike at all) and with a descent rolls gants managed to wipe out his 5 berserker unit! Awesome!!!
Now I have a possibility to drop onto the central objective!
I respawn a bunch of hormies closer to the rightmost objective, they get all the buffs and head for the eightbounds on the right altogether with a carnifex.
I manage to get first Warp Ritual, then thin down eightbounds with pyrovores and carnifex's shooting to 1 model. The last eightbound is finished in close combat with gants, while the spawn is shot dead beforehand.
Turn 3
Last eightbound squad, one exalted eightbound squad, two berserker squads and both lords pile in to the center for revenge!
4 berserkers are burned down to ashes with pyrovores overwatch, then all the pyrovores, smaller gant unit, tyrant guards and a Tyrannocyte are killed!
On the left flank berserkers failed a charge from the reserve, standing in front of a carnifex in the open.
Tyranids lashes back, killing all the berserkers with magic, then all the exalteds and half of normal eightbounds with shooting. In melee carnifex wipe out berserkers, while tyrant fails to kill Lord in the center. The second tyrant finishes eightbounds.
I made a mistake here and started fighting with a tyrant and failed killing Lord, but had to start with hormies. As a result, Lord steals the initiative for 2 CP's and kills 12 of 15 hormagaunts with some descent dice rolls.
My Ritual goes off for the second time, nice.
Turn 4
Not much left. I lose my hormies and Tyrant kills the lord in the center during WE turn. But rhino blocks the movement towards WE objective.
Tyranids kill everything left, except the exalteds on the WE home objective, cause the road is blocked and cause one silly player decided to strike first with tyrant but not with gaunts in the previous turn!
My ritual is denied this turn.
Turn 5
Exalteds jump into the tyrant, killing him right away just to die the next moment... on the objective!
The resulting score is 11-9 for Tyranids.
So, I failed to get my points in this game, nevertheless, it was quite fun and strategic. And a lot of blood was drowning onto the objectives:)
