The second game I play with Necrons. My opponent is a cheerful guy Jakub "Wielki Zły" Giergielewicz.
We play Mission 13.
6 objectives (control 2,3 more) and make actions on home objectives to get points for objectives in no man’s land. Oh, ye! Always dreamed of playing an all-obsec necrons on a mission with a focus on objective control!
My opponent's necrons list is not the best one from my point of view, but still a decent one:
+ ARMY FACTION: Necrons
+ NUMBER OF UNITS: 13
+ TOTAL COMMAND POINTS: 6+3-1-1=7
+ PRE GAME STRATEGEMS: 2x Dynastic Heirlooms
+ WARLORD: Silent King
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reinforcement Points: none pts
Number of Units: 13
Assassination: 13 points
Bring it Down: 6 points
No Prisoners: 15 points (total wounds: 131)
Abhor the Witch: 0 points
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
== Dynasty: Nihilakh Arks of Omen == 7 CP, 2000 pts, 111 PL
HQ1: Chronomancer: Aeonstave, Arkana: Cryptogeometric Adjuster, Relic: Veil of Darkness, Stratagem: Dynastic Heirlooms [85 pts, 6 PL, -1 CP]
4xSkorpekh Destroyer (Thresher) [180 pts, 8 PL]
FA1: Canoptek Scarab Swarms: 4xCanoptek Scarab Swarm [60 pts, 4 PL]
FA2: Canoptek Scarab Swarms: 4xCanoptek Scarab Swarm [60 pts, 4 PL]
FA3: Canoptek Scarab Swarms: 3xCanoptek Scarab Swarm [45 pts, 2 PL]
HS1: Lokhust Heavy Destroyers: 3xLokhust Heavy Destroyer (Gauss Destructor) [150 pts, 9 PL]
LOW1: The Silent King: Warlord, Warlord Trait (Szarekhan): The Triarch's Will [400 pts, 21 PL, 3 CP]
Secondaries:
Necrons: Ancient Machinery, Treasures of Aeons, Assassination
Tyranids: No prisoners, Warp ritual, Engage
Same plan for all games: destroy the opponent’s army first, and complete objectives later:)
Deployment:
Pyrovores within a tyrannocyte. On the right flank, I set up 1 hormies, and 3 tyrant guards out of LoS. With tyrants in the open, a bit behind. One Carnifex fits there as well.
On the left flank: Second hormagaunts unit and second carnifex.
Others fit behind the central ruin, outstretching a unit of hormagaunts a bit to prevent turn1 deepstrikes.
Necrons are hidden all but warriors' units behind ruins with Silent King in the center. Flayed Ones are in strategic reserve.
Necrons win the roll to go first and we start.
Turn 1. Necrons
A turn on a Neurothrope’s imperative for a better magic counterattack for my turn 1.
Everything moves forward with scarabs getting 2 leftmost objectives and warriors - one of the rightmost.
The third scarabs unit performs a mission action (Data intercept, I suppose) on their home objective.
Shooting.
C’tan kills 2 hormies with his powerly powers and one unit of destroyers managed to kill a Carnifex on my right flank (but now they are exposed in the open - good!).
Necrons managed to complete Ancient machinery on the leftmost objective for 4 points and 5 points with Treasure of Aeons. Strong! Also 3 points from the Data Intercept.
12-0 in favor of Necrons
Turn 1. Tyranids
Left flank I move Hormagants without advancing closer to scarabs. Central hormies start action on my objective.
Rightmost hormagaunts are buffed with +1 to hit, rr 1’s, and head to the rightmost objective with an automatic 6-inch advance strat.
Shardgulelt tyrant advances forward, heading for Melee Destroyers. Tyrant guards, Neurothrope, and zoeys advance forward, in order
Pyrovores drop right between 2 tyrants on the right, aiming at warriors.
Magic.
I do buff hormagaunts with Poisonous influence and give Onslaught for Shardgullet tyrant from a Neurothrope, outside of 24-inch zone of Silent King.
Then I use Neuroparasite from Zoeys on the 20-man warriors blob, killing 6 outright.
Smite from one tyrant is then followed by Smite and Scream from the second, killing 2 out of 4 Melee Destroyers. Solid phase!
Shooting.
Shardgullet manages to bring down one Menhir, but Balethorn does just 3 wounds to the second one.
Carnifexes shot 2 destroyers down, and 1 is still holding somehow.
6d6 hits from pyrovores wipe out the warrior blob completely!
Assault!
Shardgullet charges and wipes Melee destroyers (+D3 attacks, rr wound, -1 to wound from destroyers for strat).
Left flank hormies kill 1 scarab unit and get into 1 inch with the last destroyer, effectively discoring an objective with the second unit of scarabs.
Right flank hormies fuck up on dice and kill just 4 warriors, lol. But take the objective away from necrons, nonetheless!
It’s quite a devastating turn for Necrons, but not as much in points. 2 for Engage and something for No prisoners (will count at the end). And I get 3 points for Data Intercept as well.
For now 5 - 12 in Favor of Necrons.
Sorry, no more photos, was pressed on time again:)
Turn 2. Necrons
It’s fun, but Necrons get 0 on Primary because of control only the home objective!
This turn Necrons get a «shoot after fallback» protocol. I turn on zoanthropes INVULNERABLE saves Imperative for this turn - ready to hold my ground!
On the left flank, scarabs hide in the ruin on the furthest objective, while the destroyer is on the ruin, ready to shoot after fallback.
On the rightmost flank warriors fall back.
C’tan and Silent King come closer to the tyrant and tyrant guards.
Flayed ones get in on the right within 9 of hormies.
C’tan powers + shooting down tyrant to 4 wounds. That’s all interesting.
Assault. Silent king runs into tyrant, while C’tan charges both pyrovores and tyrant. I spent all CP’s for save re-rolls for tyrant, so can not overwatch here.
My dice are on fire with saves and Silent King brings down tyrant to 2 wounds, but that’s it. C’tan has to split attacks in order to kill him finally and as a result, only 1 pyrovore is killed and I remove the one in combat, freeing up the remaining 2 models. C’tan consolidates into a second 3-man pyrovore unit and locks them.
By the way, Tyrant «explodes» and strips 2 wounds off the C’tan. Nice!
Lucky 9-inch charge brings death to hormagaunts, ripped apart by flayed ones.
As a result I lost three central objectives, so Necrons get 3 points for Primary (action) and 5 points for Treasures of Aeons. 0-0 for the other two secondaries.
Score: 5 - 20 for Necrons.
Turn 2. Tyranids
I still control 2 points, scoring 4 for Primary at the start. Nice!
Hormies on the left follow the scarabs and a destroyer. Central ones perform the Data Intercept action again.
I switch my full attention to the Silent King and C’tan, Moving almost everything into positions to cast, shoot and charge!
Magic. I strip off 3 wounds with zoeys on C’tan. Then I fail everything else, but FnP on tyrant. Interesing…
Shooting. I strip 3 more wounds from C’tan with Balethorn cannon. Down to 2 wounds. End I kill the last Menhir… and that’s all. Not much.
Two unlocked Pyrovores managed to scorch 7 Flayed ones to dust.
Charge. I charge Tyrannocyte into Heavy destroyers, losing 5 wounds from overwatch.
Tyrant charges C’tan and kills him right away with a «trampling charge» stratagem.
Hormies wipe out scarabs and consolidate into a heavy destroyer and grap the leftmost objective.
Silent King with Heroic Intervention managed to get to the Tyrannocyte and kill it right away, reaping my cunning plan to pieces!
So, in the end, I control only 1 «no man’s land» objective for 1 point. And 2 points from Engage. Not good, dear HiveMind, no damn good!
Score: 12 - 20
Turn 3. Necrons
Necrons score 12 for Primary… It hurts!
The solo destroyer jumps on the free objective just for points.
Silent King and 3 heavy destroyers go for Tyrant.
Scarabs perform Data Intercept, while warriors perform Ancient Machinery on the rightmost objective…
Shooting. Silent King kills Tyrant guards (I don’t know, why) and heavy destroyers fail to do anything to warlord-tyrant (thanks for a command re-roll!).
Assault. Silent King hits the warlord-tyrant, strips 4 wounds, and loses 6 in return. Oopsie!
Flayed ones kill a 2-man pyrovore squad.
Scores 15 for primary, 4 for Ancient Machinery, and 5 for Treasure of Aeons. OMG!
It’s 12 - 44 now!!! I’m in big trouble so far!
Turn 3. Tyranids
As in turn 3 I’ve switched on Tyrant’s imperative for a charge after fallback, tyrant falls back
Central hormies receive all the buffs and advance auto 6 towards the destroyers.
Magic. I toss a few mortals for Silent King, so (combined with later shooting) he is down to 3 wounds. Hormagaunts get a Poisonous Influence (mortals in melee). But I fail my Catalyst for Tyrant.
Shooting.
Full pyrovore brood burns the remaining Flayed ones to ashes.
Assault!
Tyrant charges Silent King, no CP left, so no Trumpling charge this time.
Hormies in the center charge a 3-man destroyers unit, I roll low and kill 2, then 1 returns back, nevertheless, I manage to put a few gants onto the objective with Silent King.
On the left flank, hormies finish solo destroyer and consolidate onto two objectives on the left.
Tyrant fights last so receives all the beating (not much in the last profile) from Silent King. All invulnerable saves are passed and the tyrant kills Silent King finally. It explodes, tossing a bunch of mortals around, killing his own Chronomancer in the explosion, hehe. So no more Necrons left on this objective.
So I got 4 from Primary here and 2 for Engage.
Not much left for Necrons on the table. We had not have much time left, so quickly rolled for important actions. Destroyers failed to kill Tyrant and tyrant wiped them out at last, but I spent 1 more turn to clear necrons home objective. Nevertheless, Necrons managed to get a lot of points for Primary and 2 of their’s secondaries, but just 3 for Assassination.
I’ve maxed out Primary, got just 7 for Ritual (forgot about it turn 3 (I’ve told you, dear reader, that I got old and rusty), and 12 for Engage.
The final score is 77-56 which is 14-6 on the capped scale in favor of tyranids.
So, as the dice let me down in the first game they were on the opposite for this one. I rolled high for Hive Tyrant saves late game and it was somewhat important. So, with one Draw and one Win I proceed to the last game, which will be a massacre with Blood Angels:)
To be continued…
